To all of you who served your nation and your people and your ideals,

who wear our symbols of strength on proud young shoulders

and noble grizzled heads,

we salute you.

Because you served, knowing the cost

we salute you.

Because you never forget that independence means the many are dependent on a few,

because you were willing to give your being and your heart

for a nation whose practices aren't always perfect but whose ideals are worth dying for,

because you never

forget why you served

or who you served

because you still serve with pride and love

we salute you.
